OVERVIEW

The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) strengthens and connects Reform Jewish life across North America. Serving more than 800 congregations and nearly 2 million people, the URJ supports congregations, camps, youth and teen programs, Jewish learning, Israel engagement, leadership development, work to build communities of belonging, and justice efforts through the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. Together with our communities and partners, the URJ helps people find meaning, belonging, joy, justice, and purpose through Reform Jewish values and teachings.

MISSION

The mission of the Union for Reform Judaism is to inspire and support vibrant Jewish life by helping individuals and communities connect to Judaism in meaningful, modern ways. Through its congregations, camps, youth programs, and social justice work, the URJ works to build a more inclusive, compassionate, and equitable world rooted in Jewish values.

CURRENT INITIATIVES

The URJ’s top priority is helping more people find meaningful entry points into Jewish life and supporting them as they move from initial connection to deeper belonging and leadership. This includes civic engagement through initiatives like Every Voice, Every Vote, immersive youth experiences at URJ camps and programs like L’Taken and Yallah Israel, and ongoing work around Israel, democracy, and religious pluralism. Across all of this, the throughline is building leadership and community, helping people see themselves in Reform Judaism and actively shape its future.

WAYS TO ENGAGE

There are many ways to engage with the Union for Reform Judaism, from joining a local Reform congregation to participating in camps, youth programs, social justice initiatives, and national gatherings like the URJ Biennial. The URJ also offers online learning, leadership opportunities, and resources for people at every stage of Jewish life, helping individuals and families build meaningful connections to Jewish community and values.
