Produced, written, and hosted by Rabbi Cantor Dr. Linda Bernstein, Mitzvah Expo features Jewish organizations making a difference across the Jewish World.
SAN FRANCISCO, April 14, 2026 — The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) Bay Area is featured in the second episode of Mitzvah Expo, the newly launched Jewish organization podcast and showcase found at MitzvahExpo.org. JCRC Bay Area, the largest collective voice of Bay Area Jews, embraces and celebrates the rich diversity of Jewish identity and our broader community. Rabbi Cantor Dr. Linda Bernstein, Producer, Writer, and Host of Mitzvah Expo is pleased to interview Tyler Gregory, CEO of JCRC Bay Area and Executive Director of Bay Area Jewish Action (BAJA) to talk about what it takes to protect and strengthen the Jewish community in one of the most challenging moments in recent memory.
Tyler works closely with elected officials, law enforcement, and K–12 and higher education leaders to ensure the Bay Area and California remain places where Jewish communities can live openly and safely. In recent years, JCRC has become a leading Jewish organization addressing the rising threat of antisemitism in the Bay Area through public education, media engagement, and advocacy, as well as coalition building on issues of social justice and shared values. JCRC Bay Area is the largest of the more than one hundred JCRCs around the country.
Tyler shares how JCRC Bay Area builds coalitions across ethnic, faith, and civic communities and why those relationships are the key to fighting antisemitism effectively. From advocating for Jewish students in California schools to standing with the Asian community during a wave of anti-Asian violence, Tyler makes the case that Jewish safety and the safety of all communities are inseparable, providing a valuable lesson in local, national and international relations. Learn more about how you can get involved in the work of the JCRC Bay Area by watching/listening to the Mitzvah Expo Podcast and visiting the JCRC Bay Area Showcase Page on MitzvahExpo.org.
“I am proud that JCRC Bay Area is being showcased on Mitzvah Expo," said Tyler. “By creating a platform for Jewish community organizations to share our work, Rabbi Cantor Dr. Linda Bernstein is helping people better understand how they can get involved. It is through strong engagement that we can achieve our mission, to unite Bay Area Jews and our neighbors in service of a more just world where Jewish identity is embraced and all people can thrive. I look forward to seeing how her platform continues to grow and which impactful organizations she will spotlight next.”
Some of the current initiatives of the JCRC Bay Area include:
Here I Am: In response to a dramatic rise in antisemitism, the JCRC Bay Area HERE I AM Training provides tools for recognizing antisemitism and gaining a deeper understanding of Jewish identity for teachers, business leaders, government officials, and anyone else.
Education Initiative: JCRC’s education initiative ensures fair and equitable treatment for Jewish—and all students—in our K-12 public schools. JCRC does this by investing in building relationships with district leadership that will lead to positive long-term outcomes for Jewish families.
Bay Area Network of Jewish Officials: The Bay Area Network of Jewish Officials (BANJO) is a partnership between JCRC Bay Area and Jewish elected officials from our area.

“We are the caretakers of the land of Israel for the Jewish people everywhere,” he said, noting the importance of growing the country’s North and South. “82% of the population lives in that Jerusalem–Haifa–Tel Aviv corridor. Yet, 60% of Israel’s land is in the Negev, and 17% is in the Galilee. And if you don’t grow on it, live on it, or develop it, either Mother Nature will take it away, or other people will.”
As an example of one of Jewish National Fund-USA’s many initiatives, he cited the JNF-Arava Medical Center in Israel’s South that provides fast, high-quality healthcare to thousands of residents.
“We built a medical center in the Arava, which we had never done before,” he said. “But if you were a young family and your threeyearold had to go an hour and a half to a hospital in an emergency, you wouldn’t move there. So we found the roadblocks, and we solved them.”
Robinson also discussed Jewish National Fund-USA’s commitment to inspiring lifelong Zionist identity through youth, travel, and cultural experiences. “The American Jewish community has given up on teenagers,” he said. “For many, their last Jewish experience is their bar or bat mitzvah. College is too late. So we bought Alexander Muss High School in Israel, a study-abroad program for high school students. If you want to make the biggest impact for the future, invest in teenagers.”
